GM also had an uncontrolled acceleration problem and loss of control while driving, but that was a long time ago. There has been 34 alleged deaths in Toyotas since 2000. I would love to see the track record for GM, Chrysler and Ford. The Pontiac Vibe is also being recalled under the same circumstances, which goes to show, GM uses shitty parts as well. Face it, Toyota is just as American as GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Many of the "American" cars are being built in Mexico, Canada and China.

They do. It's called patches. Apple works the same way.

No need to bring your computer to the company, they can fix it over the Internet.

GM has never had a recall even 1% the size of Toyota's for uninteneded acceleration. Everyone has recalls, it's the size and reluctance to act that makes Toyotas one of the worst ever. 34 deaths so far and the problem has not even been identified yet.

The Pontiac Vibe is a Toyota designed car using Toyota parts with the Pontiac nameplate stuck on it. Funny how the Toyota Matrix gets higher quality ratings than the Vibe when they are identical vehicles.

As for who is American. Toyota is directly and indirectly responsible for about 350,000 jobs in America. GM is directly and indirectly responsible for about 1,500,000 jobs. Ford and Chrysler add 1,500,000 more.

Toyotas profits mostly go back to Japan. GM's North American profits all stay in North America, it is illegal for them to siphon profits to overseas facilities.

A GM car assembled in Mexico accounts for 5X as much money entering the U.S. economy as a Japanese car built in America

Regardless of Toyota's association with the Vibe, GM is still responsible for cars that are manufactured under their brand. And to say GM had NEVER had a large recall over a potentially dangerous situation is a outright lie. GM had recalled 7 million cars for uncontrolled acceleration many years ago. GM also had recalled 5.8 million cars after drivers could lose control over their vehicles. There have been other recalls from companies like Ford which involve more deaths than Toyota.

While Toyota may not employ as many employees as GM, Ford, and Chrysler, they still contribute to the American economy. GM's North American profits? That's a joke. If they've been making good profits, then we wouldn't have had to bail them out and they wouldn't have had to declare bankruptcy. By the way, do you have any proof of your numbers? You seem to be certain that a GM car made in Mexico accounts for 5x as much money from a Japanese car built in America.

GM will have to declare Chapter 7 bankruptcy soon. The US government will have to be responsible for thousands of autoworkers pensions soon. This is why they need to discredit Toyota to get people to buy American crappy cars and trucks.

New Toyota NA confidential document subpoenaed by Federal Government basically has Toyota bragging about how a recall involving floormats in 2007 sidestepped a recall that would have cost $100 million US instead of addressing the root cause of the issue. The savings are listed under the title, "Wins for Toyota — Safety Group." The document cites millions of dollars in other savings by delaying safety regulations, avoiding defect investigations and slowing down other industry requirements.
