Moreover, the military application is often not there. ever imagine that the government might do this to obtain human good human resources their country?
This is in stark contrast to weapons labs like lawrence livermore, where any technology there is top secret and in closer to weaponized form.

The discoveries themselves don’t have direct applications, but the technologies needed for them often do(projects push the boundaries of tech in several areas such as data processing and computing). Very useful things off of the top of my head that developed alongside particle physics: klystrons. Internet. However, these don’t have primarily military uses.
