The US actually watned to build a bigger collider under Reagan, but it was stopped because the scientists at the time didn’t sell the idea as well as they needed. The Soviets were also going to build one, but the SU broke up.

We think we’re so evolved. We look for the meaning of life and use vast energy and finances in the search, ..all while we turn a blind eye to where that same energy and finance could actually make a difference — not so ironically, … in life itself. I would love to call the cops.. However..the police force as well as Teachers , firefighters, and other much needed public servants that the world needs to operate,,are being laid off and standing in unemployment lines. because of lack of funds…. If we cant afford to pay teachers in a failing education system first, who’s going to teach the next generation to use all this wonderful technology??

Although the stated purpose of this 7 billion dollar machine is “to find a particle”, it can realistically do more than that. Any discovery related to particle physics could give us an insight into stable fusion technology. Any discovery related to the higgs field could lead to more knowledge of zero-point energy.

Both of those things could lead to limitless, clean energy production and potentially save the planet and trillions and trillions of dollars.
